Nicholas Chinlund (born November 18, 1961) is an American actor.

Nick Chinlund born-and-raised in East Harlem, New York; the son of an Episcopal minister, he attended Friends Seminary in Lower Manhattan. He left the city to play basketball at Brown University (Providence, Rhode Island), but his hoops career was cut short when he suffered an injury during his freshman year. He stayed at Brown (majored in history) and took up acting classes (Theatre Speech and Dance. Brown University). Nick Chinlund played Stanley Kowalski in "A Streetcar Named Desire" by Tennessee Williams (photo). Theatre determined his true vocation.

Before relocating to Los Angeles, Mr.Chinlund worked the boards on the east coast, where his theatre credits include the off-Broadway productions: "Owl's Breath", "Mothers, Brothers and Others" and "Corner Boys". In 1988-1989 he appeared at the renowned Williamstown Theater Festival in Massachusetts in such productions as "The Legend of Oedipus" (July 1988), "American Clock" (July 1988), "The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui" (July 1988), "Tom Jones" (August 1988), " Henry the IV" (July 1989), "Passion" (August 1989), "Mother Courage" (August 1989) (photo). His stage work in L.A. includes "Maps for Drowners", "A View from the Bridge", "Partners", "Street Scene".

In 1997 Mr.Chinlund has been seen in several independent projects, notably "A Brother's Kiss". He also served as the executive producer of the film, which was directed by childhood friend Seth Zvi Rosenfeld. "A Brother's Kiss" was filmed in and around the neighbourhood where Chinlund and Rosenfeld grew up. The film tells the story of two brothers, Lex (Nick Chinlund) and Mick, who grow up in the hard streets of New York. Nick received rave reviews for his starring role in this movie. The Los Angeles Times praised Chinlund’s standout role and brilliant technique and style in performance. Chinlund continued in his long vein of independent features with roles in dramas "Chutney Popcorn" (1999) and "Goodnight Joseph Parker" (2004).

Nick Chinlund starred in big screen movies such as: "Tears of the Sun" (2003) as Michael 'Slo' Slowenski; "Con Air" (1997) as William 'Billy Bedlam' Bedford; "The Chronicles of Riddick" (2004) as Toombs, directed by David Twohy, who also directed Chinlund in the underwater thriller "Below" (2002). Nick is possessed of the most brilliant talent of the dramatics that contribute to his success as a prominent actor and allows him to play roles of any genre from priests up to mercenaries. His many notable performances include roles in thriller "Letter to My Killer" (1995); war action "Rough Riders" (1997); comedy "Amy’s O" (2001); crime drama "Training Day" (2001); adventure movie "The Legend of Zorro" (2005) and new drama "Sinner" (Grand Jury Award for Best Film at the Buffalo Niagara Film Festival 2007).

Chinlund's talent and versatility transfer over to his many television appearances. Nick is hot off his recurring role as Detective Sullivan on the smash hit "Desperate Housewives". He also played Detective Tancredi on "Third Watch", Major Ellis in two episodes of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and appeared on many others such as "Law & Order", "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit", "The Sopranos", "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation", "Ghost Whisperer", "Gilmore Girls", "The X Files" and "Criminal Minds". He participated in recording sound for animated cartoons and video games ("Swat Kats: The Radical Squadron", "Chronicles Of Riddick: Dark Fury" Toombs, VG "TimeShift" General Mitchell).

Chinlund is a New York native who currently divides his time between New York and Los Angeles.

Nick Chinlund's great-grandfather left Sweden (Kineret near the town of Torup in southern Sweden) for America, Chicago in 1870's.
When the movie "Bad Girls" was filming Nick Chinlund had never ridden. The wranglers asked which of actors was the one who didn't know how to ride. Nick raised his hand. They gave him a very gentle mount, one that would never give him any trouble or orneriness. Nick's horse carried him around like a baby and never gave him a moment's grief.
The synergy that culminated in "A Brother's Kiss" was so charged with an eerie intersection of destinies that those involved are almost reluctant to speak of it. Director/screenwriter Seth Zvi Rosenfeld grew up with actor Michael Raynor on the same streets where the film was shot. Michael and Nick Chinlund became friends at age 11, after meeting on a basketball court - Seth and Nick were born on exactly the same day. Nick knew producer Bob Potter from childhood, their friendship reinforced by a mutual love of hoops. Seth was old friends with Michael Rapaport and Marisa Tomei.
